Summer Baseball: Franklin Legion falls to Kingston in extra innings

Anthony Chaiton pitched into the ninth inning, scattering six runs (two earned) on 12 hits, striking out three while picking off two runners, but the Franklin Legion team was dealt a tough 6-5 loss in nine innings at the hands of Kingston in the American Legion Zone 6 Sectional playoffs Sunday.

Post 75 (21-5) will play Dartmouth Monday at Adams Field in Quincy (4 p.m.) with its season on the line in the double-elimination tournament.

"We?re just going to take it one game at a time," said Franklin manager Mark D?Angelo. "We can?t worry about Tuesday or Wednesday. We have to get through tomorrow first, so we?re just going to look to play seven good innings of baseball, and we?ll see what happens."

Steven Gilbert went 2-for-4 for Franklin with a two run single in the third inning that put Post 75 ahead 3-1. Gilbert later came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Riley Young, giving Franklin a 4-1 advantage.

Evan Abbott went 2-for-4 and put Franklin on the board with an RBI single in the second inning.

Kingston scored twice in the top of the ninth when they loaded the bases before a walk and a throwing error allowed Post 32 to take a 6-4 lead.

MILFORD GAME PUSHED BACK: Due to an unplayable field, Sunday's game between Wachusett and Pittsfield in the Zone 4 Sectional playoffs was postponed until Monday at 5 p.m.

Post 59 will now host the winner of that game Tuesday at Fino Field (7 p.m.).
