Lamar CISD artists advance to Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo ...

Eleven Lamar CISD artists will have their works shown at the 2013 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Show, with six being eligible for the Rodeo Art Show Auction.

The students? works were judged as part of the Lamar CISD Student Art Exhibit. The Lamar CISD Student Art Exhibit will be on display Wednesday through Friday at the Fort Bend County Rosenberg Annex, 4520 Reading Road.

Artwork from across the District will be on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on those three days.

For the fourth year, Foster High School?s Christy Beltz won Best of Show at the Lamar CISD Art Show. The senior was the Grand Champion at the Rodeo in her freshman year and has since been ineligible for the auction. This year?s work is a painting, ?The Essence of Yellowstone.?

Foster senior Rachael Faye Becker earned a Gold Medal with her mixed medium piece, ?Peek a ?Boot.?

Alessandra Jara, a freshman at George Ranch High earned a Gold Medal with her colored drawing, ?Rank and Rowdy.?

Foster High senior Diem Tran won Special Merit for his mixed medium work, ?Miss Muffet.?

Lamar Consolidated High School senior Alejandro Escamilla won Special Merit for his Monochromatic Drawing, ?Holster.?

Emma Gaas, a junior at Foster, won Special Merit with her colored drawing, ?Girl?s Best Friend.?

Cindy Chen, a senior at George Ranch, earned Special Merit with her colored drawing, ?After the Ride.?

Daniel Pahutan, a 7th-grader at Reading Junior High won Junior High Best of Show with ?Cut from the Same Cloth.? Briscoe Junior High 8th-grader Chloe Marcheli earned the Gold Medal with ?After A Long Ride.?

Evan Matheson, a 5th-grade student at Hubenak Elementary was Elementary Best of Show with ?Spice it Up,? and Velasquez Elementary 2nd-grade student Jane Miller earned the Gold Medal with ?Mutton Busting.?

All these students will have their works on display during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The high school students will have their work judged during the Rodeo, with the possibility of making the auction.

Beltz is not eligible for the auction because she was Grand Champion during her freshman year. Her work brought a record $190,000 at auction.

Jennifer Stavinoha is the art teacher for all the Foster students; Jennifer Light is the art teacher for the George Ranch students; Saundra Hill is the art teacher at Lamar Consolidated; Monica Arratia is the art teacher at Reading Junior High; Audrey Feuge is the art teacher at Briscoe Junior High; Kimberly Vogt is the art teacher at Hubenak Elementary; and James White is the art teacher at Velasquez Elementary School.

Ram Estrada is Lamar CISD?s Director of Fine Arts.
